Jabod A great album by a fantastic new band. Singer Melissa Clarke has an amazing voice, bombastic and brittle at the same time. You can hear a range of influences from the 60s and 70s (psychedelia, glam rock, even spaghetti Western), but combining more contemplative dream-pop elements. The main thing: cracking good songs. Favorite track: Shameless.

The All American Girl concept is familiar to most, but this debut album focuses on darker implications; the self-destructive pursuit of perfection, the cannibalistic tendency of mainstream media and the American dream turned nightmare. However, the message is far from sceptical, rather it embraces the less salubrious aspects of the stereotype as a force for artistic expression. The result is a journey which raises more questions than answers but does it with style.

All American Girl are a London-based band which formed after singer-songwriter Melissa Clarke Atwood left San Francisco for London and joined forces with bass player Daniel Metcalf, & guitarists David Bushell & Ben Glister, who had previously played together in a post-core band, to create a unique sound of their own.

The AAG sound is defined by a delicate but destructive distinctive vocal against layered but rough & intertwining lead and rhythm guitars-all backed-up by a jazzy rhythm section.

The band maintain a DIY ethic and haven't followed a conventional route of releasing singles / EPs as a precursor to the album. Instead, in homage to the album format and with a desire for the album’s concept to be consumed holistically, AAG are releasing their debut album ‘The Enemy’ in its entirety in 2014 non exclusively via Flat50 Records.

The album was produced, mixed and mastered by Sean Read at Famous Times Studios in Hackney London. Sean is a member of The Pretenders, Edwyn Collins’ band and is a touring member of Dexy’s, Suede and Manic Street Preachers.
The band cite Bowie, The Doors,Elliott Smith, Velvet Underground, The Brian Jonestown Massacre,Radiohead, Joy Division and many more
as influences.
